OSR: Generic Cult Lair + Generic Wizard Tower
The Monster Overhaul will contain a few very basic dungeons. What's a Minotaur without a Labyrinth?
Here are two examples. They're designed to be very generic, but still interesting enough to adapt on the fly.
Maps by Dyson Logos. The first is The second is a cleaned and edited version of the Shattered Tower mixed with The Poisoner's Tower. I couldn't really get the upper levels of the Shattered Tower to work so I adjusted things slightly. The Generic Cult Lair is based on this map.

Always appreciate another wizard tower!ReplyDelete
I ran an adventure using this very map in yoon-suin :DReplyDelete
Well, probably not the exact same (given the updates I made to the interior), but it's still a great map. It's so good I immediately remember the general shape of the tower and went looking for it, rather than flipping through all the maps to find one that seemed interesting.Delete
In my version, a dwarven clan had been invading the tower progressively from the bottom until they blew up the middle. The wizard, who only used the upper levels, figured that the dwarves wouldn't manage to pass his final defenses and would make better guardians of the lower levels than what he had previously, and kept on ignoring them.Delete
The dwarves are, of course, mad and swore revenge. Enter the PCs...
You made those? I quite enjoyed them. Thank you for sharing.ReplyDelete
Yup. They're neat little dungeons. Not spectacular but very handy.Delete
Is the Monster Overhaul a new book project?ReplyDelete
It is. 20 sections, 10 monsters each, full of supplemental information presented in immediately useful formats.Delete
This is my favorite project you're doing.ReplyDelete
I like the tower if you're referencing the venerable Judges Guild precedents you'll also need at least one level containing a stone golem!ReplyDelete
I put a big spooky wizard tower in a town, made very sure all the NPCs mentioned that it was super cursed and then apparently decided I didn't need to figure out what was inside because there's no way the PCs would decide to check it out on a whim, right? So yeah, the wizard tower came in super handy and was great/easy to run!ReplyDelete
